A Single Prosaic Thought

Every time we watch a drama, comedy, or whatever, we're really just enjoying watching people go through terrible things. In a tragedy, people go through terrible things and then die. In a comedy, people go through terrible things and then get married at the end, or whatever. In a drama, people go through terrible things that they conquer in the last reel. The only genre that's nothing but watching people go through pleasurable things is porn. And that's kind of a different thing entirely.

I think there is probably also plenty of porn where at least one person is going through something terrible.

Ah yeah, good point. So maybe that doesn't even work.

You're forgetting VH1 retrospecials, where it's not the characters, but the audience that's going through something terrible.

Also, I find travelogues to be very pleasant to watch. Nice buildings, interesting food. Makes me want to go there. Nothing terrible ever happens to Rick Steves.

That's true. I do enjoy my documentaries. I am currently learning quite a bit about national parks. Everyone seems pretty happy.

Well, I was kinda thinking only about narrative-based entertainment, but it is an interesting point that documentaries are more often about happy goings-on. Another reason why non-fiction is better than fiction.

Yes, correctly.
